Haematology is the area of medicine and medical science which covers disorders of the blood and bone marrow. Haematologists are Specialist Physicians who care for and treat patients with these disorders.

The Blood Unit is a Specialist Haematology Group Practice at Cabrini Medical Centre. Our Haematologists Dr Kirsten Herbert and Dr Melita Kenealy, run a comprehensive, evidence based service to patients with a wide variety of blood conditions. The Blood Unit provides:

Prompt access to Outpatient Haematology Appointments with extended consulting sessions at Cabrini Malvern and Cabrini Brighton.
A new Inpatient Haematology Service with a centralised mobile number 0499 300 777 providing direct access to the Haematologist on duty.
A new fortnightly ward service roster with daily consultant ward rounds and improved continuity of care.
A focus on evidence based practice, quality of communication and follow up.
Our Specialist Haematology Nurse for inpatient education, and ongoing outpatient after-care, education and support.

Our Haematologists practice at both Cabrini Malvern and Cabrini Brighton, with key academic and service provision links to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Our team brings together medical and nursing expertise experience in clinical haematology, basic research and clinical trials. We work closely with our Laboratory Haematology colleagues, radiation oncologists as well as a vast network of surgeons and physicians from other specialties to ensure we provide excellent, comprehensive and evidence-based patient care.
